UPDATE: Due to extreme weather several First Night and First Day events have been cancelled. The People's Procession at 6 pm, the Frog Pond Skating Spectacular at 6 pm, Boston Common Fireworks at 7 pm, and Copley Square performances on New Year's Day, have all been cancelled.

Since 1975, Boston’s First Night has been a New Year’s Eve tradition, and the First Night celebration in 2018 will continue to be free and open to all. 

Entertainment and special attractions will be focused in Copley Square and Back Bay. Many of the beloved traditions of First Night’s past will continue, including cultural and musical performances in various indoor venues around the Back Bay, fantastic ice sculptures (click here for a map of ice sculpture locations), light displays, the People’s Procession parade at 6 pm (CANCELLED), and the 7 pm Family Fireworks on the Boston Common (CANCELLED) sponsored by The Mugar Foundation. At midnight will be the Countdown on Copley pyrotechnics and light show in Copley Square.

Fun, family entertainment is happening on New Year's Eve (from 11:50 am to midnight) and New Year's Day (from 11 am to 3 pm) (CANCELLED). You may recognize many of the entertainers from their performances in the Downtown Boston BID, including Code 51, Rachel Sumner, The Opera Guy and the Downtown Boston BID Brass Band.

And through the efforts of Friends of Christopher Columbus Park, Boston Harbor Now, and the Wharf District Council there will be a midnight fireworks display over Boston Harbor with viewing in the North End and the Seaport.

This year will also usher in the first-ever First Night Boston Scavenger Hunt! Starting Dec. 26th, you will be able to download the GooseChase Android | iPhone app, find the First Night Boston Scavenger Hunt, and start completing missions to earn points towards an awesome Boston prize-pack!
